Reiki – a spiritual practice of compassion

for all beings*

Offering Reiki is a form of meditation with your animals, of being present with animals (and others) in a grounded, centered, and compassionate space which embraces, connects and encompasses all beings, all species, all life.

When Reiki is combined with animal communication, the whole being of your animal companion is addressed.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing system used originally for spiritual development and used today for hands-on healing. Rei = “spirit” and Ki = “energy,” so the word “Reiki” (prounounced Ray-Kee) literally translates as “spiritual energy.” The nature of Reiki is perfect energetic balance.

The practitioner does not direct the energy flow, but rather creates an energetic space that the animal is invited to join. The practitioner sets an intention to facilitate the healing process and allows Reiki to flow in whatever amount the animal (or person) wishes to receive and for whatever he or she needs most. It is “intelligent energy,” and knows where to go in the body to achieve the most good. All animals – humans and other species – have the ability to bring ourselves back into balance. Reiki energy helps restore that natural balance, from the inside out.

For animals who are sick or dying, Reiki can help them to be more comfortable and at ease with their process. Reiki is also a wonderful way to support a dying animal’s family through the grieving process.

Reiki can help rescued, adopted, re-homed, and abused animals who have fear, anxiety, aggression, depression and other behaviorally-based issues. The gentle energy that is Reiki can help heal past and present traumas.

Animal Reiki is adapted to the size of the animal being treated and their preferences. Animals are generally more sensitive than humans and may, for example, prefer hands-off treatment, or treatment from a distance. This is discerned by asking the animal about his or her preferences. Animals are very willing to state their preferences about their own treatment!

Animal Reiki has many benefits:

  • It is simple, gentle, non-invasive, and does not require physical contact;
  • It is safe, effective and can do no harm; animals instinctively recognize the Universal Life Force known as Reiki, and understand its healing power;
  • It works with an animal’s entire being: mind, emotions, body and spirit; it reduces stress and anxiety while creating a sense of well being, relaxation and balance, so the body can heal itself;
  • It complements all healing modalities, including holistic and veterinary-directed treatment;
  • It releases blocks and balances the body’s energy;
  • It supports the body and mind’s natural ability to heal, thus speeding recovery from surgery, injury and illness;
  • Reiki helps animals in transition to die with peace and dignity;
  • The animals are always in control of their treatments;
  • Reiki can be offered in person or from a distance.

What Happens in an Animal Reiki Session?

Reiki energy is both powerful and subtle. The best environment for your animal during a session is quiet, if at all possible, so they can relax. My sessions are usually remote (distance). A remote Reiki session follows this general pattern:

  • Send me a photo of your animal companion, either a print or by email, and their name.
  • We will establish a time for the session. Especially at the beginning, you may want to be present to observe your animal’s response to the energy. They often relax so completely they take a “Reiki nap”!
  • At the appointed time I enter meditation, focus on and connect with the animal, and create a safe energetic space into which I invite the animal. This is a neutral space, free of any agenda or intention other than that this animal/being receive what they most need at that time, for their greatest well-being. The animal is free to draw as much or as little of the Reiki energy as they need or want.
  • A remote session lasts for 30 minutes. I will email you at the conclusion of the session to relay any impressions I’ve received during the session. Sometimes people prefer a brief phone conversation afterward.

This is a guideline. The process for each session varies depending on the needs of the person and the animal(s).
Some results of Reiki treatment may be seen immediately, and most often within 24-48 hours. Healing may be seen after one or two Animal Reiki treatments; some conditions may require a series of treatments in the healing process.

Testimonials:

"My dogs enjoy the energy flow of the distance Reiki sessions from Nancy. The sessions calm them and relieve them of their geriatric aches and pains resulting in Reiki naps that revitalize them to the point of behaving like puppies!
As for me, the energy flow of the distant Reiki penetrates my body and relaxes and energizes me. I can't help but absorb and relax in the comfort of the Reiki energy provided. Thank you Nancy!"

Words cannot express how grateful my family, our beloved Petey, and I were to have Nancy by our side during the passing of Petey. Nancy had communicated with Petey and performed Reiki on him to help him pass. I was never a believer until now. Nancy, we are truly grateful for you and your support through our difficult time. We can now be at peace. Much love - From our family. - Daquari. D
